Hello world!

“Hello!

The Good Food Society has existed for a year so far and manages the vegetable allotment behind Dinwiddy House on Weston Rise. We need volunteers to help out with developing the space we have, and there are small projects going on, such as painting a mural on a bare wall and building a shed, as well as the normal tasks of basic gardening and watering.

However, we don’t mind if you don’t want to do that much, as we’re relaxed about people just hanging around and using the space to meet up with others. What is more important to us is that there is a nice area of King’s Cross which is enjoyed by both SOAS students and the local community. There will be no demands made upon you if you join the email list!

This is the society’s first project, and there could be more done within it. We would like to raise awareness of where our food comes from, how it is produced and how it is used. Some of our members have other ideas to expand the society, such as helping out with the work of Foodworks (http://www.foodworksuk.org/), which reuses perfectly good food thrown out by restaurants and supermarkets and gives it to the homeless or those on a low income. Others would like to start foraging expeditions in forests and cookery classes. We’re also close to the SOAS Food Co-op, and hope to do more together. There’s no limit on new ideas, so join in!”
